DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE

The Department of Horticulture focuses on teaching the students about crop production and postharvest technology aspects of fruits, vegetables, flowers, ornamental plants, spices, condiments, plantation crops, medicinal plants, aromatic crops, and also landscape gardening. The Department of Horticulture has two laboratories, viz., Horticulture Laboratory and Postharvest Laboratory.

A cafeteria with various vegetable and flower crops is raised by the Department of Horticulture every season to provide hands-on training to the students. The department makes full utilization of the available of 17 acres of orchard to expose students to practical fruit crop production and orchard techniques. The department also engages the students in propagating horticultural crops through different propagation methods, preparing various processed products of fruits and vegetables, practicing different methods of flower drying, etc. 

There are three ELP units under the Department of Horticulture. 

  1. K. L. Chadda Commercial Horticulture Unit

  2. S. N. Rao Protected Cultivation of High-value Horticultural Crops Unit

  3. Sri Chennakesava Food Processing Unit

With the aid of college management, the Department of Horticulture launched the “NS Foods” enterprise. This helps students in the Food Processing ELP unit to mass produce different products and sale at the commercial level. The department is aiming for the FSSAI license for “NS Foods” products.

Student life

The college provides comprehensive academic support, financial assistance and personalized out reach efforts in order to serve community of students, faculty & staff. In addition, by utilizing highly effective business, administrative and student information systems, the office provides advocacy for the colleges academic departments & programme.
